Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite 'Chariots of Fire' is a spectacular intergeneric terrestrial orchid, resulting from a cross between Calanthe Rozel and Phaius Tankervilleae. This hybrid is renowned for its tall, stately flower spikes that emerge from the base of large, pleated, fan-like leaves, often carrying a dozen or more long-lasting, waxy blooms. The 'Chariots of Fire' cultivar is particularly prized for its dramatic and intense color palette, featuring deep velvety crimson to blood-red petals and sepals that contrast sharply with a vibrant magenta or fuchsia lip, often marked with a white or yellow throat. While the plant can be deciduous, dropping its leaves during a winter rest, its primary growth period produces lush, tropical foliage that makes it an attractive ornamental even when not in flower. It is a robust grower that prefers semi-terrestrial potting media and thrives in intermediate temperatures with bright, filtered light.
