Grammatophyllum Speciosum, commonly known as the Tiger Orchid or Giant Orchid, holds the distinction of being the world's largest orchid species. Native to Southeast Asia, this massive epiphytic plant can form gigantic clumps weighing up to two tons, with reed-like pseudobulbs that can grow to several meters in length. It gets its common name "Tiger Orchid" from its striking flowers, which are typically pale greenish-yellow with bold, maroon-brown spots and can be borne on towering inflorescences that reach up to three meters tall. The spectacular flowering occurs infrequently, typically only once every two to five years, but a single plant can produce thousands of flowers that last for a long period, making it a truly breathtaking botanical spectacle.
