The Cattleya Violacea Forma Coerulea is a highly desirable color mutation of the naturally occurring Brazilian species, Cattleya violacea, distinguished by its striking blue-purple coloration, as 'Coerulea' refers to blue or azure. This epiphytic orchid species typically bears clusters of two to six flowers on pendulous spikes, which, in the standard form, are a rich magenta-purple. However, the forma coerulea mutation replaces the magenta pigment with a beautiful slate-blue or lavender-blue hue, especially concentrated on the large, ruffled lip, which is the most striking feature. The petals and sepals are typically a lighter, often pristine white to pale blue-lavender, creating a stunning two-toned effect.
