The flowers are typically a pale yellow or buttery yellow with a prominent, white, sac-like lip that is often dotted or blotched with reddish-purple or pink spots, earning the genus name "Gastrochilus" which means "belly lip." The plant is also noted for having a slight to mild fragrance.
