Rhynchostylis Gigantea 'Blue Kaidao' is a rare and highly attractive selected form of this well-known Vandaceous orchid. Native to Southeast Asia, Rhynchostylis gigantea grows as an epiphyte in warm, humid forests and is admired for its dense, pendulous flower spikes and strong fragrance. The ‘Blue Kaiodaa’ form is especially valued for its unusual bluish-violet coloration. The flowers are small, waxy, and closely packed on long, arching to pendant inflorescences, forming a beautiful fox-tail-like cluster. Each bloom typically shows shades of pale lavender to bluish-purple with deeper violet spotting or markings, while the lip is slightly darker and adds contrast to the flower. The blossoms emit a strong, sweet fragrance that is most noticeable during the daytime. Flowering usually occurs in late autumn to winter. The plant grows with thick aerial roots and broad, leathery leaves typical of Vandaceous orchids. It prefers bright filtered light, warm temperatures, high humidity, and good air circulation.
